PhD International funding for Science Education at Curtin University in Australia

Applications Deadline: 31/10/2019
A merit-based Ph.D. scholarship is available for the holder to conduct research in a project, funded by the Australian Research Council Discovery Project scheme

Nationally and internationally, there is a growing demand to engage students in the scientific thinking process and build their creative problem-solving capabilities through evidence-based teaching strategies. The project will also develop and evaluate teaching strategies to better support students’ creative and critical scientific thinking skills and scientific understanding.
The Ph.D. student will work with secondary school science teachers to develop teaching materials, interact with secondary school students, video-record classroom interactions, conduct interviews, analyze class videos and diagrams, write a doctoral thesis, and contribute to writing peer-reviewed journal articles.
The successful Ph.D. student will be supervised by a team of experienced science education researchers (Dr. Mihye Won and Professor David F. Treagust) from the STEM Education Research Group at Curtin University, Perth, Australia
